ARCHIVE: Star Crossing Dec 09

After a recent MI I've not been able to get out much, so this gentle explore was a welcome change and a great way to get slowly back into it and I've been wanting to see this for a while.

On the Mold and Denbigh Line, Star Crossing was opened in 1914, briefly closing between 1917 and 1919. With no other dwellings nearby and the closest village over two miles away, the station (or halt) only consisted of a couple of 150ft platforms, a station master's house and a small waiting room on the Up platform. The house is now a private residence with the old trackbed as it's garden.

Despite it's isolated location, Star Crossing remained open until the line closed for passenger traffic in 1962 and the place looks untouched nearly fifty years later.

A few miles further down the line, there's an old DMU rotting away behind a nursery. For those who care about such things, it's a British Rail Park Royal DMU Class 103 number M56160 Driving Trailer, owned by the now disolved Park Royal Vehicles LTD. It's owner is in jail for fraud and the council are trying to get rid. There's talk it may go to the Transport museum on the Wirral.

Thanks for looking.
