RAF Croft - September 2011
Explored with Kenni....
yes I know its been done to death but it was my first time here so I don't care! :D A bit of blurb for anyone who's had their head in the sand and not seen a report on this place.... RAF Croft started as additional living accommodation for H.M.S. Gosling located at Risley. H.M.S. Gosling was commissioned on 8 October 1942 and was paid off in 1946. That station was dedicated to the Fleet Air Arm and was a training base. H.M.S. Aeriel was also paid off and on 1 February 1956 was opened up as RAF Croft to process people in and out of the U.K. Although it was called RAF Croft it should not be confused with another RAF Croft further north and used by the RCAF during the war. RAF Croft became tenanted by the USAF in 1955 to provide a processing point for personnel and dependants when Burtonwood was assigned the additional function of a MATS terminal for passenger flights between the US and UK. The terminal was located at Prestwick in Scotland. Unaccompanied personnel were billeted in single rooms and messing facilities were described as being above standard. Exchange facilities were limited as of June 1956 but a large theatre was located on the station and regularly showed 16mm films. pics...... http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/00.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/01.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/02.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/03.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/04.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/05.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/06.jpg bullet holes?.... http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/07.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/08.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/09.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/10.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/11.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/12.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/13.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/14.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/15.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/16.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/17.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/18.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/19.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/...20Croft/20.jpg |
