Archaeology Book
If anyone's interested, a new book on Kitson of Leeds "Monk Bridge Ironworks" published by York Archaeological Trust @ £20 contains a few pages on bricks at the back. Apart from that it's not a bad book. (ISBN: 978-1-874454-56-4)

Thanks for the info.
I've been gathering info on this place for a long time with a view to building a model of one of their early steam ploughs. I had no idea this book existed, so I might just get myself one. Info on Kitson is scarce. It became Kitson Hewitson sometime in the early 1800's and was then taken over by the Fowler Steam Plough Works of Leeds in the 1860's who copied their designs until they got their own ideas off the ground and went on to be the biggest steam plough builder in the world. Sadly, after many attempts to compete with the newfangled diesel machines, they finally closed in the 1960's and the building was demolished :cry PS. The link doesn't seem to work. I found it via Google, but I think the problem is at the other end. |
