West Float Bascule Bridge - July 2010
Was in the area on Sunday when a ship approached. Apparently it doesn't happen to often so I jumped out and got a few snaps.

I knew the ones over the water had been restored years ago, its really nice to see them working, hopefully we will see stanley dock one moving at some point :popcorn

It's interesting to know that they're all unmanned. There is just one team of guys who operate every bridge and lock on here and the ship canal and go around in a little van, operate one lock and then zoom ahead in the van to the next!
Plus Peel put in a planning app in the paper last week to develop this whole area with apartments, offices and hotels - plus develop the Hydraulic Tower. |
Good pics, should have tryed your luck and asked for a look inside the control room.

What a delightful phallic symbol.
