Visited with Tarby on the way up to a dodgy 1960's Crossroads Motel sort of Place in Middlesbrough.
It is a very complete set of buildings, now very disused, and slowly decaying into the landscape. It was owned by the Bell Brothers between 1872 and 1923, and then by Dorman Long through to 1938.
This is the power house, with a small clocking on/off office and an ambulance room attached. The power house provided compressed air for the site.
The Schiele fanhouse is for the upcast shaft (378 feet). The top 8 feet of bricks were added when it was converted to a winding shaft, as well as being used for ventilation.
The building to the right was the secondary winding house, and has an engine bed inside.
The stone building (behind the brick building) on the right, was the main winding house for the downcast shaft (384 feet)
It was possibly used to construct the downcast shaft (below), and altered to wind the upcast shaft.
