Default Dyson Thermal Technologies - Nov 2011 - 21-11-2011, 23:24

Originally in the area on the lookout for underground interests which proved fruitless - so swung by to have a mooch around this place. Suprisingly the place still has a lot of original features

During the 1800s the area also became an important producer of refractory bricks for the expanding Sheffield steel industry. The bricks were used to line the furnaces and were made from gannister, a sort of sandstone.

From the company’s website - hmmmm i wonder why it closed?? “We also have links with manufacturing bases abroad, such a Beijing Trend in China, so that we can supply products with Dyson TT's renown quality, but at a much more cost-effective price..”

Quote:
Dyson Thermal Technologies (Dyson TT) specialise in manufacturing products with very specific material properties, in particular ones are resistant to extremely high levels of heat or pressure.
We have over 100 years of experience in supplying cutting-edge refractory ceramics to both high and low volume markets, and through our Innovation Centre are continually developing new ideas and products to meet the challenges of today and the future. We also excel in process innovation, continually streamlining our systems to ensure our clients get the products they need, when they are needed
Dyson TT is based at several sites throughout the UK, but we maintain a very global outlook. Our products are sold throughout the world by our own experienced sales staff in the UK, US, China and Spain, and via a network of foreign agents able to reach the four corners of the globe. We also have links with manufacturing bases abroad, such a Beijing Trend in China, so that we can supply products with Dyson TT's renown quality, but at a much more cost-effective price.
This blend of global contacts, technical experience and innovative thinking is summed up within our mission statement; Focus, Innovation, Performance.Focus on our customers throughout the world, Innovation to meet the needs of tomorrow, and Performance in meeting our clients' requirements.

Looking at that Crompton Parkinson panel with power factor meters labelled "alternator no.?" it appears the factory was up to at least the mid-1900s (say, 1950 when I was born) "off grid" with its own power plant.
