Arrow ARCHIVE: Pilkington’s Sandwash Plant, St Helens – June 2010 - 25-06-2010, 20:29

After having a quick tour around St Helens with Droid & Pace a few nights back I met up with Sui after a warehouse fail and we headed out in the sweet weather.

Extracted sand was brought to the Pilkington Brothers Sandwash site via train, Cleaned and then transported to St Helens town to make high quality sheet glass.

The Pilkington Brothers started this process of extracting sand deposits at Rainford in 1880, The site is still filled with old machinery including a sketchy railway bridge, watch/lighting towers and crushing machines from when the plant finally closed in the late 1960’s.

Cheers for Looking, Gone...
