Here are a selection of pictures from my first attempt at Urban Exploration. It was taken a while ago now at a disused farmhouse in the Lakes. Havent been able to find out much more about the place apart from that but the whole feel of the place was amazing. The quietness and the isolation of the venue would make for some really good shots later on in the day, using different light and colour. Am hoping to be able to revisit this site to try som of this soon.

Cheers for the kind words. I finally figured out how to do this. Pity I got into this when I did, as a lot of the old knackered buildings round here have been torn down before I had a chance to get into them. Still looking though and hoping to find some spots round Liverpool and Manchester.

Looks like an interesting little place, loving the waterwheel.

From a photographic perspective, allow me to offer some critique as your website describes you as an emerging artist. Try and capture the essence of a place - go for a variety of different shots, internals, externals, close ups of details, things that you've found, etc. Use different viewpoints (i.e. don't take everything from regulation head height - get down high, get down low, get really close. Try to avoid using flash, get yourself a cheap tripod if you're using a compact or bridge (an SLR isn't compulsory), and if there's no light take a torch and do a spot of light painting.

Cheers, always good to get feedback!

I have been doing some light painting recently as a project I am working on for a future exhibition is all about Light & Reflection, so I will be using some hopefully in the future. The use of flash was mainly because it was a nice evening but a little cloudy so took with and without, and there was very little detail without the flash.

I am not to keen on the 'emerging artist' line, but someone wrote it for me, hoping to overhaul that as part of an update on the site.

Long exposures in low light are the way to go, with the caveat that you may need a very long exposure, which your camera may or may not be able to do, depending on what it is. Always worth carrying a torch in your camera bag when exploring, you never know when it'll come in handy!
