Hope Cement Works - Hope - July 2011

Visited with Non-Member Nick

We had a look around this place about 18 months ago, back then we weren't as confident and after finding ourselves in the site, we quickly scuttled back out with the legendary statement of "we'll go back"...

Well we did and it was better than expect and despite there being lots of activity on site, none of the kilns were rotating and none of the conveyors were moving, asides from when we were leaving. The heat in this place was unbearable in parts and I even managed a small burn (superficial) from a wall, yes, a wall. I can only (and would rather not) imagine what it would be like touching metal in this place in parts, ouch.

This site is fully live in all parts and we explored only the main exhaust tower and chimney area and carriage storage / train yard area. It's a massive site and well worth a look if you are going by...

Now to get back down there...

Cheers :thumb

excellent! but I wonder how long it will be before the leader or post makes a big headline saying all the usual irresponsible explorers putting themselves at risk blah blah ..dont they know were professionals lol.

Well done and nice report.

The site is fully live but I suspect workers only venture inside occasionally for maintennance and checks as there were no other footprints that we could see aside from another recent explorer's. I've been twice and only ever seen drivers on the roads and obviously workers on the tracks shunting etc...

It is largely run remotely and they do have cameras in some places. If you go over to the control room they will tell you all about it.

This would be much better kept in a members only area in my opinion. Making this sort of explore public can only invite a security clampdown.

Fair enough, I have posted in public on 28 though, it's quite a large site though so securing it any form would be nigh on impossible.
