Default Barton High Level Bridge - Manchester - May 2011 - 27-05-2011, 21:51

Explored by Millhouse, Sho and Gone.

Info:
Barton Bridge is composed of 18 sections covering a total of 2425 feet, and rising to 100 feet high above the Manchester Ship Canal. It opened for use in 1961, and during construction several men lost their lives. Now days the bridge has become an essential part of Manchester’s infrastructure, seeing thousands of vehicles passing over every day.

With rope over my shoulder, myself, Gone and Sho headed to Barton Bridge, located near the trafford Centre and Chill Factor’e. In the dead of night we stood under the massive structure and planned our route of attack. We set up the gear and took it in turns to ascend to the catwalk that runs the length of the bridge – but upon arrival up top we found ourselves looking at a steel wall and locked door on one side, and a wall on the other, great. So we abseiled back down, quickly re-planned, and were soon ascending once again. Once we were up we walked along the bridge, checking out the various platforms and views and generally dicking about. By the time we were leaving it was getting light, so we rigged an abseil and were off into the sunrise..
