Default New Hey brick quarry nr Rochdale - 18-04-2009, 19:55

Nice sunny day and no invites to any expeditions because I moan too much at present meant jump on the bike and pretend I know what I am doing fossil hunting.
The site's an old brickworks quarry so you never know what might turn up. Come off the M62 junction 21, head east and you will see the quarry on the left, turn left towards the quarry at the mini roundabout and park next to the school, round the back of some terraced houses. Then walk through the bushes, couple of hairpin bends and you're there.

Usual warning sign adds to the thrill of being there!

General view east

Usual burnt out car adds to that Death Valley feel

Forgettable calamites root, all I found so it came home with me

Couple of bricks and a nice overfired one , got three variants of New Heys in total

One for the ladies, what a combination, bricks, fossils, leather and bikes!

I like the colour scheme, rusty ochre I'd call it.

Friend of mine called at the Mort Arms on Thursday night. As he walked in a chap at the bar said matter of fact "your cars on fire". He'd parked it near the Post Office, went to look and the firemen were finishing putting the fire out.

I went to take some pics, hoodies stood nearby, as I walked past I said, "they've got em on camera, they know who it is", they shot off!

Bloody hell, are things that bad up in Tyldesley now? I used to drink in The Mort, along with the Black Horse.
