Default Gadbury Brickworks the home of NCB Gadbury - 20-06-2009, 20:05

Working on my next book, Atherton Collieries, came across this. Gadbury Brickworks in the 1930's. The original works was an experimental one of about 1914, this site closed shortly after the adjacent pit Gibfield Colliery in 1963.
Used to play there with my sister after it closed making mini houses out of the stacked bricks, really sharp edged common bricks.
Fettler lives near those houses on the left (still there today).

Ta for that, you can come and clean my car any time! I'm working on the book on Atherton Collieries, one on the Pretoria Disaster Atherton of 1910 (344 killed), a general one on the Lancashire Coalfield and one on Women and Children In The Mines (the 1842 Childrens Employment Commission).

After that one on Wet Earth Colliery and our work there, then one on Mosley Common Colliery, then one on the Underground Canals, then one on the British Coal Industry and finally for the time being one based on the tens of thousands of photos I've taken of the last pits since around 1979 and (forgot) one on opencast coalmining and the old workings and artefacts uncovered. I fancy doing one on aerial photgraphs of former industrial sites mainly pits and quarries etc.

Four to five years should shift that lot then I'll take up crown green bowling

He's a local who knows loads of stuff about Tyldesley and Atherton. He's got large framed photos of the old mills in Tyldesley and Atherton and might be able to supply you with info and / or pics for your books.

I'm the consultant archivist 2 days a week at the Hallé Orchestra at present, that'll do fert time bein. Gives me time for writing and flying and lying in bed.
Got to get the books done before I die hence setting mad targets. Thereagain all a bit pointless really as that enormous meteorite currently heading for us is due to pulverise the earth just after I finish the last book
