Death's Waiting Room

A derelict old folks home near Bolton. About 30mins before the wrecking ball moved in.

Built in 1885 as a rather nice home for a local mill baron.

Why have I never seen this place before? Where in Bolton was it? Shame it's gone

The Urban Spaceman 17-03-2012 09:41

It was on the approach road to Dunscar Golf Club, off Blackburn Road. When I visited there was a reclaimation contractor in, removing copper, lead and anything of architectural interest for resale. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1770618

Reclamation contractor a.k.a pikey!

The Urban Spaceman 17-03-2012 18:58

No. Signwritten vans, hi viz coats and PPE. Apparantly they reclaim stuff before the wreckers move in! They must be good to beat the pikeys though!!

Very cool :thumbs

Kenni 17-03-2012 23:33

It's not hard to get hold of the above equipment lol

It's original name was Galebrook nursing home.

The contractor must have been disappointed, went here a couple of years back and it had been totally ripped out by the pikeys back then, still some of the residents possessions knocking around too.

There was a massive locked safe in one of the offices on the top floor though!

The Urban Spaceman 18-03-2012 11:06

Galebrook! Thats the one. There is a large mound of earth to the right of the road before you get to she site of the house. This was put there at the request of the house owner, so he didn't have his hideous mill (where the industrial estate now stands) in his view!
I'll put some more pics of this place up later. Upstairs was hilarious, not much floor left!
@ Kenni, are you suggesting that pikeys are now driving signwritten vans and wearing PPE? Fascinating...

Kenni 18-03-2012 15:50

@urban spaceman, yes. On a brighter note I have just seen some people climbing in the part of Bolton college that hasn't been demolished yet so I wonder if there will be pics up soon lol :D bloody broad daylight wearing bright red and orange hoodies, mental!
