Default James Brindley Drainage Tunnels - ARCHIVE - 13-09-2008, 19:48

More commonly known as "Wet Earth Colliery." This place is still a hot potato even after being sealed up for 10 years Salford council are constantly snooping around, hence the post being in the RU section. A rare chance to have a look was not to be missed and after a real shitty entrance we were in.

If you are interested in the history of the tunnels i highly recommend that you read the info on Dave Lanes website , the tunnels have been dated back to the mid 18th century!!!

On with the photos, getting used to a new camera so thats my excuse for, out of fous, under exposed, over exposed, photo shopped, poor lighting, etc..........

TNM you need to get in here and weave your magic they really are photogenic and i cannot begin to do them justice.

Remains of a Walker Bros upcast fan on the surface.

Remains of the fan house.

18th century candle holder. You can also see the pick marks in the sandstone

One of the lower tunnels that has started to silt up again.

Pipes that used to raise water to the surface

Egregious!
