Arrow ARCHIVE: Haslingden Quarry- Dec 09 - 13-12-2009, 22:41

Haslingden Grane is a glaciated valley lying to the west of Haslingden and in the north east of the West Pennine Moors.

Prior to the construction of the reservoirs in the 19th century the settlement of Haslingden Grane had a population of 1,300 and was the centre of an illegal whisky distilling industry. The remains of some buildings can still be seen. Much quarrying has taken place in the past and it looks like this place has also called time on it's quarrying.

The minerals extracted were mudstone, gritsone and sand stone. Plenty of nice rusty bits to look at. This place will be familiar to a few members of this site.
