Underground Sheffield, River Don Tunnels - Visited By Ojay, Thompski & Woodburner.

Determined to check out some industry and leave the drains until the afternoon, it wasn't long before we accidentally found ourselves below ground...

Whilst mooching around a very 'on top' location looking for something other that the usual long-abandonded factory or pigeon-infested warehouse we found a normally locked door was thoughtlessly left unlocked....

I think we must have fallen over each other in a comedy attempt to see what lay beyond. (Some rickety wooden steps down below was the answer).

Strangely lights were on, but as it turned out nobody was home.

Under the building was a huge network of cellar like catacombs and hidden rooms, some bricked, others accessible. Oddly enough despite the lighting the entirity of the sub-basement didn't appear to be used for anything apart from storage and service pipes..

After having a good mooch about and taking some shots, we decided to head back to our entrance, then suddenly on the left appeared another tunnel tucked away around the otherside of an abandoned plant room. Later on we discovered that it led under the river Don.

Further along it suddenly changed shape into what was essentially a cast-iron tunnel with a steady flow of water seaping through, at this point I would say we were directly under the river.

What an extraordinary find, talk aboout stumble upon.

Starting with that elusive door

Service Tunnel

Sub-basement

Hidden rooms

Pump?

Compressor?

More tunnels

Under the River Don

All in all an interesting place, although not too much to see this place delivered!

Thanks for looking
